From Bundaberg I headed up to 1770 – The Town of Seventeen Seventy – or Seventeen Seventy – not sure exactly what the official title of the place is – but never mind – its 1770 from here on in this blog – lots easier.
Surprisingly enough 1770 is one of the places that good old Cookie landed in when discovering the land down under in 1770. (Captain James Cook that is – you remember him – had a lot to do with the white fella coming to this great land). I went up to the lookout thing and whilst its beautiful – there’s not much there. You could look out onto Bustard Bay where Cook anchored on 24 May 1770 – Cook’s 1st landing in Qld. It was very lovely – but not all that exciting.
1770 is right next to Agnes Waters. Both are little coastal areas – both nice & typical coastal towns – both with not much there – but lovely water, nice & peaceful. I had meant to go further north this day – but when I got there I liked it & thought it would be a nice place to stay – so I let the vacancy gods decide for me, rocked into the caravan park & asked – and yes they had a site left – it was meant to be!!!
Because 1770 sticks out from the coast a bit – you can actually sit on the beach (15 metres from the camper) and watch the sun set over the water. It was a really nice sunset – a lovely area. I am still looking forward to seeing the sunsets at Darwin & on the west coast – but this one was nice.
A beer & a chat with my next door neighbours and dinner & bed ended the day of 30 July for me. A quiet, not much achieved day – but nice enough.
